- Liaison and possible agreements with international organizations in the region.
- Regional Financial Strategy for LAC (the GM is currently working on this issue and it would be good to integrate the same in the RCM proposal or at least to take into account the results of the strategy in the proposal).
. - Selection Criteria for the host organization and/or country for the RCU.
.- TPNs Analisis: Degree of implementation, limitations, how they can be strengthen, experiences in TPNs coordination that can be utilize in the RMC platforms.
.- Recently has been put in place the Latin-American and Caribbean Initiative for Science and Technology, how this initiative can articulate or became the arm of the CST in the region.

According to Decision 3/Cop 8 “The 10-year strategic plan and framework to enhance
the implementation of the Convention (2008–2018)”, the Latin American and Caribbean region is beginning a consultation process to know the opinions and recommendations of the countries, OCB´s, international organizations and relevant institutions in the fight against desertification and with a view to establishing regional coordination mechanisms (RCMs). In this context, the Task Force consisting of Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Guatemala and Mexico, has contracted me, through the UNCCD Secretariat, to elaborate a MCRs proposal.

I am therefore kindly asking you for your support and collaboration in answering the attached questionnaire. Your responses will be very useful for the elaboration of the draft Latin American and Caribbean regional proposal. Your participation will be reflected in the final report, as a record of the interest and involvement of the stakeholders in this process. I would appreciate if you could return the questionnaire no later than 6 March 2009.

At the same time, I would like to invite you to participate in the e-forum that been set up by the Global Mechanism, where we will debate important issues concerning the implementation of the mechanism. Cuestionario para el desarrollo del la propuesta de Latinoamérica y el Caribe sobre los mecanismos para facilitar la coordinación regional en la implementación de la Convención


Estimados participantes:

En función a lo establecido en la Decisión 3/COP/8, “Marco y plan estratégico decenal para mejorar la aplicación de la Convención (2008-2018)”, de la UNCCD, la región de Latinoamérica y el Caribe ha iniciado un proceso de consulta para conocer las opiniones y planteamientos de los países, organizaciones de la soc. civil, org. internacionales e instituciones relevantes en la lucha contra la desertificación, en cuanto a la creación de un Mecanismo de Coordinación Regional (MCR).

En atención a ello, es que solicitamos su colaboración para responder la presente encuesta, (adjunta) la cual nos será de gran utilidad para la elaboración de una propuesta tendiente a establecer un Mecanismo de Coordinación en la región. Su participación será consignada en el informe final a objeto de que este refleje el interés e involucramiento de todos los interesados.

Por otra parte, los invitamos a participar del foro que ha abierto el Mecanismo Mundial para esto efectos, donde debatiremos algunos de los temas consignados en la encuesta.
